Helping The County’s Homeless

Helping the homeless: More than 1 in 30 children are homeless in Arizona. That comes out to about 1,400 homeless kids here in Yavapai County.

Agape House of Prescott wishes to tackle this issue by focusing on getting families off the streets and into long-term transitional homes.

“The emergency shelters are usually full and don’t provide a stable enough environment for families in serious need of more long-term housing,” said Becky Mitchell, a volunteer coordinator for Agape. “Some of these families need months or a year to help with inside healing.”

The staff members at Agape are seeking to expand their monthly support system and acquire a building to house families.

They are in need of monthly donors, professional volunteers, and a building donor. Their short-term goal is to acquire a building able to house 3 to 4 families. Ideally, they would like to eventually get their hands on a hotel- sized establishment to fit 20 to 40 families.
