A typical judgment passed onto a homeless person or a family out of work and experiencing overwhelming economic distress is, “There are tons of jobs available; they just need to apply.”
Before you quickly agree with this opinion, I want to point out a valid argument as to why this is a short-sided statement. The days of hand-delivering or using snail mail to deliver a resume are in the past; nearly all of the employment process is done on-line via the web.
Additionally, on a side note, to apply for social services resources, schooling for the children, and the majority of banking transactions and paperwork are also done on-line. We are operating life in a technology age.
So that brings us to the short-sided part of the opinion that there are “tons of jobs and that homeless people need to apply.” Can you imagine how impossible it would be to apply for a job without a computer? An option may be to access the web at the public library, but with the pandemic closures, that option has its limitations. Therefore, if you don’t have a smartphone, address, or computer, the opportunities to apply for a job can be severely limited.
So what do you do if you are out of work, homeless, and don’t have a computer? Fortunately, we have a story that changes the scenario from hopeless to inspiring.
A local non-profit organization saw the need of families in economic despair and came up with a solution.
Hebrews 1:7 Ministries in Prescott changed several Agape House families’ lives with a donation of 13 Dell Computers. The computers were a blessing in more ways than we can count. (Hebrews 1:7, “His angels like wind …His servants a flame of fire”.)
One of the Agape House on-line Jr. High Student reports: “Thank you! I am so happy I can get my school work done now!”
A single father was incredibly grateful, “Thank you for the donation of the Dell Computer I am now able to file for my daughter’s scholarship, DES, and complete all the legal paperwork from out of state.”
This generous donation is a reminder to be grateful for the little things. We take for granted our phones and computers, but the challenge to navigate in the world would be difficult if we didn’t have them.
